Join us for a free guided walking tour as part of Calgary’s annual Jane’s Walk weekend. Eau Claire: From Sawmill to Skyline will explore how one of Calgary’s smallest neighbourhoods has continually reinvented itself, from its industrial beginnings to the residential community we see today.
Meeting Point: Eau Claire and Bow River Lumber Co. building (north end of Eau Claire Plaza)
In the 1880s, Eau Claire was built around a lumber mill and the Bow River. It grew into a working-class neighbourhood filled with baseball crowds, outdoor hockey, and swimming. A century later, much of it had become parking lots and nightlife. Towers rose. In 1992, residents pushed for homes instead of more office space.
Now, as new developments and transit reshape the area again, what does the future hold for Calgary’s smallest community beside the city’s most celebrated park?
Come walk the neighbourhood with us and discover the stories that shaped Eau Claire, and the possibilities ahead.
